Dispensary – From October 1st 2016


Hatch Opening Times:


Monday to Friday:

8.30 am to 12.00 pm
2.00 pm to 6.00 pm


If you have an appointment with a GP during 12:00 – 2:00, please see reception staff and the dispensers will dispense your urgent medication for you. We use this time to prepare your medication, so ask that you keep to the opening times when collecting your medication.

How to Order your Medication:


By using our Online Service via our Website:

You are able to order your medication 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year on our online ordering service – patient access.  To sign up for this service, bring evidence of identity, photographic if possible, to reception and they can set this up for you.  This is a safe, secure and easy way of ordering your repeat medication.


Repeat Slip:

Please tick the items you require on your repeat slip and put it in the collection box provided by the entrance to the waiting room or at Rowlands Pharmacy.

Please allow TWO FULL WORKING DAYS for your request to be processed.

Things to Remember:


  • Plan Ahead:Order your medication in good time to ensure you don’t run out. Remember, we need TWO FULL WORKING DAYS to process your request.
  • Only order what you need:Please do not stockpile medication. Some may only have short use by dates and will then need to be thrown away. Please only order what you need.


If you are at all concerned or have any queries regarding your medication, please speak to either your Doctor, the Dispensary Staff, or your local Pharmacist. They will be happy to help


When the Dispensary is closed:

If you need your medication in an emergency when the dispensary is closed, you can receive an emergency supply at the discretion of a Pharmacist for 3 days (5 days over a bank holiday).  You will need to provide proof of identity and of your repeat medications eg your repeat ordering slip.  A list of Herefordshire Community Pharmacies and their opening times is below.

Medication Reviews


If you have repeat prescriptions, your medication will need to be reviewed regularly by one of our Doctors. You may see a request printed on your repeat prescription asking you to make an appointment to see your Doctor regarding your medication or one of the Dispensers will ask you.

If you have not contacted the Surgery, you may only be given one month’s supply of medication, and you will be reminded to discuss your medication with your Doctor. You will also be invited to the Surgery for an annual check around the month of your Birthday.

If your medication needs reviewing, please contact the Surgery as soon as possible.


New Patients


If you are a new patient at our practice you will need to see your new GP before we can issue any repeat medication. Please speak to a Receptionist to arrange an appointment.


Prescription Charges


A Prescription will cost £8.40 per item.

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a Pre-payment certificate. Pre-payment certificates cost £29.10 for 3 months or £104.00 for 12 months.


The prescription charge is a contribution to the NHS. It is NOT a payment to the practice.


Electronic Prescribing Service (EPS)


We are using the new Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) for non-dispensing a patient which allows practices in England to produce prescriptions electronically. These are digitally signed by a GP or nurse and sent electronically to the “nominated” pharmacy you choose, saving you time and as the prescription is an electronic message there is no paper prescription to lose. You will also have more choice about where to get your medicines from because they can be collected from a pharmacy near to where you live, work or shop. If the prescription needs to be cancelled, the GP or nurse can electronically cancel and issue a new prescription without you having to return to the surgery – saving you extra trips. You may not have to wait as long at the pharmacy as your prescription can be made ready before you arrive.


If you live in Bromyard town, or within 1 mile of the town, your repeat prescription will be sent to Rowlands Pharmacy for you to collect, unless you tell us otherwise. Patients who live further than a mile out of town should collect their prescription from the dispensary.
