New texting service

We now offer a text messaging service.  This will be used to send you reminders of appointments and useful information (for example when flu clinics are occurring and birthday clinic reminders).

Please make sure you let reception staff know if you have a mobile phone so that we add your details to our system and you can take advantage of this service.

It is important that you remember to update us if you change your mobile number!

NHS and Staffing

It is well known both nationally and locally that the NHS is under severe pressure.  This has not been helped by a shortage of available skilled staff.  We have been affected by this at the practice recently both with regard to clinical and support staff.

Clinically, we have been unable to employ a locum doctor to cover Dr Mottram’s maternity leave for example and had gaps in employment between partner and salaried GPs.

As a practice this has meant that we have had to continually adjust our balance of urgent and routine appointments available to patients to cover the clinical shortage and we thank you for your patience over the summer when you may not have been able to make a routine appointment as quickly as we would have liked.  However, this has meant that we have been able to maintain our urgent care service and see every patient who needed to be seen on the same day.

We are pleased to confirm that going forward we will be welcoming Dr Richard Walthew as a new partner at the end of September and are actively recruiting to an additional GP post.  We will be reviewing our current system of triage, urgent care and routine appointments early in November and will inform patients of any changes thereafter.  If you would like to offer your opinions with regard to future arrangements, we would be pleased to hear from you.

YOU CAN HELP – if you require urgent treatment on the same day (including requests for home visits) please call the surgery as early as possible.  We will aim to have routine appointments available at least one month in advance for you to book non-urgent appointments.

Support staff –  Our dispensary team has been working with half of their regular staff due to accident, sickness and again the practice being unable to cover a maternity leave despite best efforts to advertise and recruit.

We have also been fortunate and been able to temporarily employ appropriately skilled university students over the summer break to support our loyal and hard-working dispensary staff and deployed staff from elsewhere in the building to be able to uphold the service.

We are also advertising to recruit a Pharmacist or Dispensary Manager to support and take forward the dispensing service we currently provide to our patients.  In order that we are able to maintain this service to you we need to make some changes and these will be taking place from October 2016.

IMPORTANT CHANGES TO DISPENSARY from OCTOBER 2016

ONLINE ORDERING – you are able to order your medication 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year on our online ordering service – patient access.  To sign up for this service, bring evidence of identity, photographic if possible, to reception and they can set this up for you.  You can also use this service to make appointments to see a doctor.

Telephone lines will be open for ordering repeat medication from 10.00 – 12.00 weekdays.

The dispensary hatch will be closed between 12.00 and 14.00

Prescriptions ordered before midday will be available for collection within 48 hours.

We would like to thank you for your continued support and patience during the past few months and through the future changes.

You can also drop off requests at the surgery and post them in the box in the foyer or drop them off at Rowlands Pharmacy.
